A portfolio site is not a career strategy
Ship the work, then the page. A pretty index of drafts still reads as drafts.

Hiring managers skim. They want two or three artifacts that survived contact with a real user, a real deadline, or a real constraint.
If the page is better designed than the work, rewrite the work. The site can be simple. The proof cannot.
